Oy, another one.
"First there was this: An advertisement from the Greater Washington advertising organization that, simply by virtue of juxtaposition, paints romance readers as Not Too Bright..." --- What was I thinking Blog by Sela Carson

Thanks to Sela for reminding me of this one via your blog post in response to my political one below. I found this topic the other day at Smart Bitches. It's an add displaying my fellow NCP author, Kaitlyn O'Conner's book. I recommended heading over there if you're curious to read more.

See i wasn't drawn to buy the romance novel. I was outraged. I spoke with someone form the DC area and she has already written to them about the ad. It truly is sad when ads can't just be ads. But this one is a stereotype that romancenovel readers have been fighting since they picked up their first romance novel.

Let me rephrase, since my post on your blog didn't orginally come out right. :) I didn't mean to imply that the ad wasn't irritating. It is. But, when presented with the choice, I'd take the romance novel over the other book listed and think it mildly funny that thier ad will boost O'Conner's sales more than help thier cause.

I understood that. The ad just did nothing for me with making me want to buy the book. I was too outraged to want to even notice what book it was. But if was to buy one of the books it would be the romance not the other one.

Hi Michelle, everyone. Great topic to air! Mean-spirited old comptroller wannabe. Did you all know those 50's love comics inspired great country artist Hank William's songs? His buddies teased him that only girls read those. You know, I've wondered why is it men can write the sappiest, most lovely, angsty love songs such as Hank and current artist, Chris Isaacs does, and no one scoffs at them??? Why can't women be allowed to enjoy an emotional, secret baby romance, if that's their personal taste in romance, in peace....

I used to care for fancy house plants in fancy high rise hotels and I can tell you many high-powered, smart executive type women had romance novels on their bed stand. Hang in there, romance readers everywhere!!!
