Pet Day at the Pillow House
Princess Fiona
I've decided that today is the first official pet day on my blog, lol. Why? Because I have a lot of them by force (aka family brings home strays and not-so-strays) And because I ran across some adorable baby pics of them.

<--Princess Fiona, Schipperke

Aside from a three-legged dog growing up and a wild cat that ran away after a day…oh, and the pregnant hamster my uncle thought was hilarious to give to my very young brother, we didn’t have many pets growing up. But, two cats, four dogs, countless fish, dwarf hamsters, a parrot, and a bunny later I think I’ve made up for lost time. This isn’t counting the loss of a rescued duck that was afraid to swim, my first cat ‘Ace’ who ate lettuce and hopped like a rabbit, and a special, cross-eyed, super fluffy kitty named ‘Cottonball’ who refused to clean himself even in adulthood but made his mother do it for him.

Princess Fiona was a not-so-stray addition to the household. A Schipperke, mostly, she thinks she's as big as the English Bulldog. When she was a baby, her head looked like a bear cub's. She's not much bigger now at about 10 pounds. I don't think she looks like the breed pics I've been finding on the net, however she's still young. But, what do we care? She's adorable...most days, lol. She's earned the nickname "twitchy" because she's always on the move and her little tail looks like a twitching thumb jerking back and forth.

She's very agile, can catch small vermin better than the cats, and has even taken to pointing. I love her face. It's so expressive, always friendly, quizzical and mischievous. Whenever she thinks she might be in trouble, she rolls over on her back and covers her eyes--knowing the adorable pose will get her belly rubbed.

I'm an animal fanatic. If it comes near me I want to bring it home. DH forbids me to go to the animal shelter to even look because he knows I don't come home empty handed. I think I can beat your menagerie. Not counting outside pets, I have 9 cats, 3 dogs, 3 ferrets and a sugar glider :-)

Your puppy is adorable and I can see myself stealing him, so keep him close.

LOL, Brenda, you beat me, but if everyone else had their way, it'd be another story.

We found a good home for our prairie dogs and parrot, someone who could take care of them better and give them more attention. It was hard in some ways, but they're much happier. The turtles were released in a safe place--away from our front lawn which they always seem to crawl up to.

LMAO, I banned my DH from the animal shelter, too.

Aww! What a doll. Maybe it will take some time for her Schipperke coat to develop? Either that or she's got some other breed mixed in.

I am owned by two miniature dachshunds. All my life I've had them in pairs. They're like potato chips - one just isn't enough! LOL My current two are my 7th and 8th, respectively, a mom and daughter combo. Having two is like a constant 3 ring circus, because the play and roughhousing never stops until someone flops down for a nap. :) And I've given up buying two rawhide bones, because they ignore one and fight over the other! Oy.

    Hi Carolan,
Yes, she does have a little something else in her. Her coat is fluffier now, more like a miniature Schipperke. She's still young, so we'll see.

Dachshunds are sooo cute! LOL, we have a pair of bulldogs. I used to think pairs were a good idea, cause that way they always have someone to play with. Now, I figure they can just play with the other animals running around here, lol.

    :)

What adorable pictures!!!! OMG, I'm a HUGE animal lover...I even put up a special animal area on my website because I am so passionate about them. In fact, right now I'm nursing the last of my mice I rescued two years ago...she's really sick and needs to be held in order to be given water, because her front legs no longer work and I can't find a vet who will work on mice. :(

Anyway, fellow animal lovers are my heroes. Good for you and everyone who commented who love animals and take in strays!

Those are ADORABLE BABIES! I'm sucha dog lover (don't tell my cats. They get jealous. I love them too).

OMG. How cute is she! We just got two parakeets last week, a white and blue and a yellow one. Tweeter and Sparkle :) Plus we have a chocolate Lab--Chocolate M & Emily and a cat we adopted whose tail had been cut off, Hershey.

She's adorable! I knew a schipperke when I was younger he was a great dog. I want a puppy soooo bad. LOL

Larissa--how cute. We had a dwarf hamster, Legs, who had been crushed by a cage. I blogged about him once before. Let me find that and repost it.

Nancy--it's funny because my cats rule upstairs, the dogs downstairs and they mingle to tease each other.

Annmarie--What cute Parakeet names, :) We had two love birds, Abbott and Costello. They were a funny pair, but LOUD... OMG, did they chatter all hours of the day. LOL

Julie -- I didn't even know what a schipperke was until we got Fiona, lol. I guess they're great nautical dogs.

Thanks for stopping by ladies :D

Thanks for having a pet day!

Living in a coastal fishing area like Sitka, Alaska, I see a lot of Schipperkes now --- before I came here, though, I'd only ever seen one. Princess Fiona is adorable.

I have a 13-year-old Pug myself, named Scooby (the kids named him -- I take no responsibility for that!). My husband has never been a dog person -- but he's been totally won over by Scooby! He goes fishing with us on our salmon troller and has an addiction to salmon hearts...

Pugs are so cute. We have a friend that visits with her pug. I'll post some of those pics in the future. I have a lot of pets to go, lol, so I'll probably keep these pets days up for a few weeks,:)

OMG Michelle! She is adorable! What a sweet face.

Thanks for swinging by my blog today. That is my main "blog home" now, I've pretty much ignored the msn one.

Headed to Dayton for a signing tomorrow and I'm taking the podcasts for the drive down. Hopefully I won't laugh TOO hard while I'm driving.

    Hope you're doing well!

LOL We put disclaimers in our shoes and we're not responsible for... well, anything on those podcasts. LMAO

I love the coffee blog. It makes me want to just stare at the pretty screen, :)

Have fun at the signing! :D

Um, I meant "in our SHOWS" LMAO. OY.

ROLFMAO!! Knowing you and Mandy, I could imagine disclaimers in your shoes!

Glad you like the coffee. It's terribly me. I crave a cup every time that I blog though ...oh wait, I'm always craving a cuppa. lol

    Have a super weekend!

    OMG--how Fab is she?!?

I'm a stray magnet too, doll. I hate thinking an animal has no home--I can't help it. LOL

    Dakota :)

  • At 7:43 PM, Blogger Michelle Pillow said…

Anni-- LMAO, um, we were writing them on our shoes, kind of a study hall cheat sheet, but I kept walking in puddle... okay, I'm laughing but no one else probably is so I'll stop there before ya'll start throwing shoes at me.

Dakota-- I swear if it's a baby and it's abandoned, it finds my front yard. We've had turtles (we're not even by water, lol) crawl up and hang out. Three baby ducks one year, who were born so late in the season, they couldn't fly south so they adopted up. We lost two, but one lived. I'll have to post those pics again--as soon as I find them.

    How cute is she?

I'd bring in strays if my family would let me. There's a cat who wears someone else's collar but thinks he lives in our house anyway. We named him. Well, 'that black and white cat' was just too long to say!

  • At 5:44 AM, Blogger Michelle Pillow said…

    LOL Cat/Kate

I just reposted about Legs the Hamster, but there was something in there about the neighbor's cat who kept trying to get into our house to hang out. He was a funny, playful little thing. This was before we moved. He'd stopped before then. Guess he found another house to hang out at, lol.

I think if I was ever rich, I'd own an animal shelter just to have contact with so many animals. DH says that wouldn't work because I wouldn't give any up for adoption.

We used to have hamsters. The last one died several months ago. Here name was Buffy and we had for 3-4 years. I had no idea they lived so long.

LOL, Brenda--it's my DH that seems to think our home can second as an animal shelter, lol. I'm just along for the ride.

Thanks Robin. I admit, I spoil her terribly...too terribly...really, really terribly, LMAO

    Michelle,
Nothing wrong with a little spoiling....I do the same with my Sable. She's absolutely rotten but I wouldn't take anything for her. When they burrow their way into your heart, they're a part of you. :)
Thanks for the comment on my blog - you're my first one as you could see!

Hi Marly :) Yeah, they know how to get you, huh?

I have two English Bulldogs and they just looked at me like, What? You didn't want your whole shoe in my mouth?

LoL Michelle! I'm just thrilled to have the comments!! Now what was that you were saying about not working? Is there a current book that we're going to have to wait on? LMBO!
